Malcolm Crowthers

Malcolm Crowthers is a photographer who specialises in portraits of celebrated musicians, composers, artists and others – including parliamentarians and churchmen. His subjects have ranged from the pop singer-songwriter Sting to the violinist Yehudi Menuhin, the American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein to David Hockney, the Lord Chancellor and the Speaker of the House of Commons to the Archbishop of Canterbury.

One of the country’s leading photographers of classical music, Malcolm has produced more than 150 CD covers for all the main labels, especially Sony and Hyperion – even designing and making stained glass and other images for their covers – and has exhibited at major concert venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican, Royal Opera House and Wigmore Hall. His work features prominently in the BBC Proms and in international music magazines and books.

Also recognised for his architectural photography, often shot from vertigo-inducing vantage points, he has illustrated books on St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Durham Cathedral.
