Alice Chapple

As Director of Sustainable Financial Markets at Forum for the Future, Alice Chappel leads the Forumís work with the financial services sector, exploring how the financial markets need to change to enable greater sustainability across the economy, and working with others to address the barriers. She works both directly with Forumís corporate partners and on specific initiatives involving diverse stakeholders.

For much of her career, Alice Chappel has worked with investors in the emerging markets, as financial analyst, fund manager, and social and environmental advisor. She has extensive experience of embedding social and environmental criteria into decision-making on investments in order to manage risk and add value. She developed the social and environmental policies for CDC, the private sector arm of DFID, and initiated practical ways in which these policies could be applied to enhance the businesses invested. She then worked with Actis, a leading private equity fund manager in emerging markets, to advise on their approach to social and environmental issues.

She joined Forum in 2006 and has worked in a range of areas, including microfinance; investment in clean technologies; investment in forests; the role of the insurance industry in combating climate change; voluntary carbon markets; sustainable private equity, and asset valuation techniques. She co-ordinates a task force for the UK's Department for International Development on finance for adaptation. She is a tutor for a postgraduate course run by Cambridge Programme for Sustainable Leadership.

Alice has an MA in Economics from Cambridge University and is a chartered accountant.
